Rfs legislation hampers aged care plans: Health Minister Sussan Ley
In a statement, she said: "This week the Senate announced its intention to hold a major vote on legislation to require the sale of aged care plans as a condition of receiving funding.
"It is absolutely clear the government wants to repeal the legislation. I urge the Senate to reject this agenda."
"This is wrong and is a step away from a system of welfare that fails families and elderly people."
Ms Ley rejected claims that it would force nursing homes to close down.
"What the Coalition has done is to eliminate the provision of A&E and home assisted treatment by nursing homes," she said.
"Nursing homes are continuing to operate today in their current capacity in the face of a budget crisis and these proposals will not change that.
"As the first woman to head the Department of Health it is critical they remain professional while the minister attempts to address the looming $20 billion debt burden of Medicare."
A spokeswoman for the Department of Health said: "The government's plan to eliminate A&E services is the latest to have been attacked and rejected by the Senate as too regressive and failing to achieve its policy objectives.
"We are working with government and industry to bring forward reforms which should deliver greater quality A&E services to more people, at less cost.

Kidnapper given good behaviour bond
Dennis said there has been no further comment from the police and he hopes the public does not get too carried away by the story.
"We're still asking the public to contact us," Dennis told the Nine Network on Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesman for the State Coroner, Dr John O'Connell, said it was "too early to confirm what the circumstances may be" regarding the disappearance of the teenager.
"We'll now do some forensic work to see if we need to look at who has been given a conduct bond - so it may be that we get an indication on that before we can tell whether to call us for a full investigation," the spokesman said.
Dennis is the son of a former minister of state and deputy secretary in Pauline Hanson's One Nation campaign and works with the Sydney Youth Centre.
He was a senior fundraiser for the group's 2013 campaign but withdrew from the race for what he said was an internal matter.

"I have no regrets about withdrawing. I'm sure many people feel the same way," he told the Nine Network on Tuesday.
He said there had been "several different parties involved" - including police, the party and police themselves - in determining the truth about his father's disappearance.
"There are no other suspects. No one would have seen my dad if he wasn't dead," he said.
"So, of course we feel betrayed. We don't think his disappearance is because we were involved with the Liberal Party. It's been a long, long time since I've been at university and it's been about three months since I went fishing with him.
"There were plenty of other opportunities around that time and I'll take them if any come to my mind.
"I'm not going to take any chances when it comes to anything I do for the public to know."
He added he and his wife now looked forward to moving on and working on "a good business deal."

A One Nation spokesman said the party had been contacted by police.
"It's been some time since Kevin Dennis has spoken publicly but he is being urged to come forward to help them find his dad and provide answers that they have not been able to provide so far," spokesman Paul Kelly said.
"They are looking into all possibilities."
